Gardai announce zero tolerance crackdown on church gatherings

An Garda Siochana have announced a crackdown on illicit church gatherings and masses.

The move follows a controversial weekend raid on a Westmeath church, where 60 rosary beaded outlaws were dispatched back to their homes.

“Having a hotline to God doesn’t make you above the law,” said a Garda representative. “These pensioners are no better than drunks in a shebeen. They’re all spreading the Covid, and you can’t be doing that lads.”

Gardai faced criticism for their heavy handed tactics, although reports they deployed riot gear and tear gas have proved unfounded.

“We had to take action,” said the Garda representative. “It was a real festival atmosphere. There was a woman playing an organ and the rest were singing and swaying. It was like Slane.

Then there was the ringleader, ‘The Father’ they called him, some character. He was wearing a funny smock and preparing bread and wine for the lot of them. If ye want to be drinking lads, don’t be doing it at church. Buy it in Aldi and take it home like the rest of us.”

A number of those present have expressed their outrage that they were all sent home without fines despite wantonly breaking the law.
