Local musician releases 25th Christmas single, still waiting for hit

Local musician Larry Hewson has released his 25th consecutive Christmas single Santa’s Pudding Chimney.

Hewson (64), well known for his acoustic nights at Micko’s pub, told DTTN he had high hopes this would finally be the year he cracked the charts.

“I do covers usually, every Wednesday. A bit of Bowie, Springsteen, Pink Floyd. I can play pretty much 75% of both Comfortably Numb solos. Really though, like any artist, I want my own material out there.

I had a few EPs in my younger days, but you can see the real money is in the Christmas stuff. Write a classic like Fairytale of New York or Step Into Christmas and it’s a guaranteed bonanza.”

Hewson’s previous efforts failed to make the top 500 selling singles nationwide, but he has high hopes for this year’s release.

Santa’s Pudding Chimney is the ballad of Santa getting stuck in a chimney after eating too much Christmas pudding. Will he extract himself in time to deliver all the pressies? You’ll need to buy the song to find out.”

Hewson believes that the song will be more family-friendly than his ill-advised hip-hop tracks Rudolph and his Bitches and Santa be Pistol Whipping, which were both banned by local radio
