A local skinflint has expressed delight at the money he has saved for Mother’s Day due to the Coronavirus epidemic.
Conor Cash (55), who checks his bank account on a daily basis, is unable to visit his elderly mother down the road, as she is self-isolating.
“It’s been a real boost to the finances,” said Cash. “First, there was no card. I would have sent an e-card, but she doesn’t have email.”
“I also saved on the bunch of flowers I usually get on my way over from the local petrol station. So, that’s a good €5 already.”
The mother usually cooks for us, but if the brother’s there he insists we bring her out for grub. I only ever pay for myself, but that’s potentially another 20 to 30 quid saved. This is the best Mother’s Day ever.”
Cash stated that he’s doing his bit during the pandemic by purchasing all his mother’s groceries for her.
“She leaves a list on the doorstep every day. I get what she needs and slip the receipt under the door. Once she pushes out the cash I go on my way.”
“I’ve made some savings on her behalf too. She usually wastes her money on all those expensive Finest ranges. I’ve switched her to the Value stuff. She’ll thank me in the long run.”
