Varadkar to star in live action Yogi Bear remake

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has been announced for the title role in the upcoming Yogi Bear live action film.

Varadkar, who has become renowned for his picnicking skills during lockdown, will play the rascally bear as he sets forth to uncover a golden picnic basket.

Producers say the casting is a perfect match: “Yogi is smarter than the average bear, just like Leo is smarter than the average punter.

Leo has stolen a great number of picnic baskets from the Irish people over the years, and he looks good in a shirt collar and tie. He was always our first choice.”

Fianna Fail leader Michael Martin will co-star as Yogi’s best friend Boo-Boo, who shares his greed for all things picnic related.

Mary Lou McDonald is in talks to play the Park Ranger, whose constant attempts to thwart their picnic basket snatching are always two steps behind.

The film will be shot on location at The Phoenix Park.

“None of us have been able to enjoy a picnic during lockdown, or even get out much” said the producer, “so it’ll be wonderful for everyone to watch Leo gorging on picnic basket after picnic basket on the big screen.”
