RTE has announced plans for a new sitcom starring Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan.
Covid & The Doc will star Dr. Holohan as the titular Doc, in what RTE hope will be the jewel in the crown of their light entertainment summer schedule.
“Dr. Holohan was a ratings hit during Lockdown,” said an RTE spokesperson. “Covid & The Doc will be essential viewing fans who miss his daily briefings. “
DTTN understands that the show will feature Dr. Holohan and Covid-19 as flatmates in an Odd Couple style scenario.
“The Doc is a real stickler for cleanliness and order. He’s out working all day, leaving Covid at home to manage the household,” said the RTE spokesperson. “Only, Covid is a bit haphazard, prone to spreading disease.
Who knows what kind of situations the Doc will find waiting for him every evening. Will he even be able to eat Covid’s cooking?”
Dr. Holohan expressed his delight at the announcement, stating that the sitcom will allow him “show more range than these endless press conferences.”
RTE has confirmed that Mrs. Brown’s Boys star Brendan O’Carroll will write the show and also provide acting coaching to Dr. Holohan, as he embarks on the next exciting phase of his showbiz career.
