A local man is refusing to wear a face mask to the supermarket after watching The Mask.
The 1994 comedy features Jim Carrey as a mild-mannered banker, who transforms into a rubbery green faced dervish after donning the titular mask.
And Stan O’Flan (34) is afraid of suffering the same fate.
“The government are insisting we wear these face masks going to the shops, but I don’t want to turn into a cartoonish alter-ego.”
O’Flan told DTTN that he had trialled wearing a mask around the house, but had noticed a green tinge to his cheeks and experienced strong urges to bombard Cameron Diaz’s social media with amorous messages.
“Somebody stop me!” said the civil servant, as he bounced around his sitting room to maniacal squeaking sound effects.
O’Flan has been banned from his local Super Valu after trampling on several courgettes and a butternut squash during an episode in the fruit and veg aisle.
“I warned what would happen if I put the mask on, but they didn’t listen. I can’t be held responsible for the mask’s actions. The power it unleashes scares me.”
O’Flan has thrown out all masks and PPE from his home and will resort to ordering groceries online if necessary.
Cameron Diaz was not available for comment.
