Hit TV show The Masked Singer is the greatest threat to humanity’s continued existence, according to a new report from Harvard.
The show, which features celebrities’ screeching out pop songs in an array of bizarre disguises, is broadcast on both sides of The Atlantic.
Dr. Denzil Dexter of The Harvard School of Social Science told DTTN that data on every perceived threat to mankind was put through a bespoke algorithm, with horrifying results.
“We threw it all in – Covid, the climate crisis, potential American Civil War, Putin, rising inequality, late stage capitalism, Brexit and The Masked Singer.
Our model shows that humanity is remarkably resilient and can overcome almost anything, except The Masked Singer. One more season could be the end of us.”
Dr. Dexter criticised the denouement of each episode, which sees the vanquished singer removing their mask, to aggressive flash editing and the crowd chanting ‘Take it off!’
“The behaviour is reminiscent of a primitive death cult,” said Dr. Dexter. “The crazed eyes, the blood lust. It’s the darkest recesses of the human psyche unmoored and it needs to be stopped.”
Producers for The Masked Singer have rejected the findings, stating the show was “fun for all the family” and in no way inspired by The Two Minutes Hate from 1984.
