Reeling in the Years shows 2010 was just as shit as today

RTE’s nostalgia trip Reeling in the Years returned to our screens last night, treating viewers to the highs and lows of 2010.

Among the highlights were then Taoiseach Brian Cowen being interviewed while (allegedly) drunk, the IMF bailout, bleak scenes of recession, freezing weather and a poor man banging his head on an icy footpath.

It was such a misery laden year that some viewers were moved to quip that even with the Covid Pandemic things aren’t as bad today.

“We’ve been in lockdown since Christmas, and God knows when we’ll get a pint again, but at least we don’t have that fucking Rihanna song blaring incessantly from the radio,” said one viewer.

“Everyone complains about NPHET, but they don’t seem a bad bunch when you compare them to the IMF. At least NPHET will give us a vaccine. The IMF just took all our money and national sense of self-worth.”

Other viewers warned that worse was yet to come.

“Mrs. Brown’s Boys started in 2011, so we’ve some grim years to sit through in the next few episodes. At least the pandemic has stopped Brendan O’Carroll in his tracks. One more Christmas special would have sent me over the edge,” said another viewer.
